Latest F2F Case Study:
I got the chance to speak with Peter MacRobert, founder and CEO of Capable Health, about what he’s working on at his startup, and any advice he has for emerging entrepreneurs.
Capable Health empowers healthcare innovators to provide affordable, personalized, quality care at scale. We’ve developed the Operating System for Healthcare that enables providers to launch and scale their own HIPAA-compliant digital health solution — with 80% less time, money, and code. We’re founded by the former CTO of Candid and Galileo, and backed by healthcare leaders at M13, AlleyCorp, and Able Partners.
Peter MacRobert is the Founder and CEO of Capable Health, a healthcare infrastructure company empowering innovators to provide affordable, personalized, quality care at scale. Previously, he was the CTO at Candid where he built the tech practice from the ground up to reach $100M revenue and provide affordable orthodontics to tens of thousands of Americans. He has also served as the CTO of Galileo, a modern telemedical practice, and Founder and Chair of Pixie Labs, a boutique software development studio. Peter is passionate about lowering the barriers for healthcare builders to get to market — you can reach him at peter@capablehealth.com.

Startup Spotlight: Capable Health
Problem: There are 46 million Americans unable to access the quality care they need. While digital health can help increase access and quality of care by meeting patients where they are, providers have struggled to keep up: it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars and up to two years to launch a HIPAA-compliant mobile app. (And this doesn’t take into account the maintenance and management costs of legacy EHR infrastructure!)
Market: Global digital health infrastructure is a massive $70 billion+ global opportunity, with $1.8 billion alone being spent on app development by early-stage U.S. healthcare startups.
Solution: Capable Health empowers healthcare innovators to provide affordable, personalized, quality care at scale. We’ve developed the modern API and software platform for providers to launch and scale their own HIPAA-compliant digital health solution — with 80% less time, money, and code.
This includes everything you need to build an engaging patient journey, from onboarding and scheduling, to care plan tracking and prescription delivery. If you’re a healthcare developer, learn more by reading our API documentation.
Team: Capable is founded by Peter MacRobert, a seasoned healthcare technology leader who was previously the Chief Technology Officer of Candid. Our 35-person strong (and growing) team is made up of passionate experts with backgrounds in healthcare, fitness, SaaS, and enterprise software.
Recent Success:
MacRobert: When I started Capable, I had a thesis that healthcare providers of all types, sizes, and care delivery models would benefit from better healthcare infrastructure — a universal platform that allows providers to focus on patient engagement and outcomes, and that truly put patients first.
We’ve proved this thesis. We’ve helped a growing cohort of digital health startups provide better patient experiences across diverse care modalities: from allergy care and prenatal care to functional medicine and sleep coaching.
Recent Struggle:
MacRobert: Working with the old-school healthcare system is a constant struggle. We integrate with legacy vendors across EHRs, payments, labs, e-prescribe, fulfillment, and much more. Each of these integrations requires a lot of planning, developer effort, and ongoing maintenance.
We build and maintain these integrations so that our customers don’t have to. However, it’s a constant reminder that the legacy healthcare system is far behind the norm in terms of open APIs and developer experience. It’s our mission to change this!
Founder Advice:
MacRobert: Go to market with your product before even building your product. This sounds counterintuitive, but there are many scrappy ways to test out your hypotheses and create traction with your product — before you even write a line of code.
Way before we had a working product, I was sharing a vision, value proposition, and draft API spec with prospective customers. Only after these conversations validated our hypotheses did we go out and build the product. One of our customers even signed up based purely on the API spec!
