I got the chance to speak with Alyx Coble-Frakes and Sunny Sink, co-founders of The Agenda. Period, about what they are working on at their startup, and any advice they have for emerging entrepreneurs.
Coble-Frakes is a Holistic Coach and the CEO and Co-Founder of The Agenda. Period who specializes in period empowerment. After returning from the Peace Corps in 2015, she felt out of touch with her own health, so she started on a path of healing. Sink is a Certified Health & Life Coach and Co-Founder and COO of The Agenda. Period. She specializes in fertility and cycle empowerment. The Agenda. Period cofounders (from left to right): Alyx Coble-Frakes and Sunny Sink.
Problem: Many women do not currently understand their hormonal cycles and how those changes impact their energy and productivity. This gap in information about how their physiology affects energy and moods causes stress and burnout.
Market: Every cycling person needs access to detailed information about their cycle, we are niching down and focusing on women who own their own businesses. There are currently 15 million women in the United States who own their own businesses and our first focus is health coaches who are also small business owners (200,000).
Solution: We help our customers connect the dots between what is going on with their cycle and how it impacts productivity and energy levels so they can use their biology to their advantage. True biohacking!
Team: Alyx and Sunny began by bringing the vision to life and have collected a wide range of collaborators for the team. It is important to be as well rounded as possible and to bring on others who fill your gaps.
Recent Success:
Coble-Frakes & Sink: We have successfully closed out two Kickstarter campaigns. We raised over $12k in 2019 to raise the funds to print the first version of The Agenda. Planner. Our second Kickstarter raised almost $11k to help us finalize the development of the App. Not only did these campaigns help us raise money for the next steps, but it also helped us to gather around a community of women who were ready to take full advantage of their cycle!
Recent Struggle:
Coble-Frakes & Sink: We have come up against the vast amount of shame and stigma that still surrounds the menstrual health space. This is not just a conversation around productivity- it is a matter of shifting a cultural narrative in order to help people open up to this product. While there has been tremendous progress in even the last 10 years there is so much more that needs to be done in the space. We are really looking forward to meeting that challenge head-on and collaborating with others who are bringing creative solutions to this issue.
Founder Advice:
Coble-Frakes & Sink: Get Help! There are so many fantastic people and resources out there once you start digging. Entrepreneurship can feel like a lonely road, it is much better with friends and mentors. Look for people who have gone where you want to go and learn from them. It is good to avoid making the same mistakes if possible.
